Birthday with Family and "Princess Diana"

The day began early with us all going to Union Station. We met Erin there. It took a couple hours to tour the "Celebraton of Diana" exhibit at the Station. The tour was not crowded when we got there...you could not see the end of the line when we left.

The exhibit was beautifully done. We saw many of the clothes she wore plus the famous wedding dress. Linda gave each "family" a book about the exhibit...she is a generous sister, aunt and daughter! Thank you Linda.

After the exhibit we were a little hungry. The Station has a delightful restaurant in the middle of it ..think it's Harvey's. The food was very good and the conversations were fun. It was a very delightful day with the girls!

That evening we all got together for dinner. Vaughn outdid himself with the grilling. We had all sorts of meat and vegetables. This was all followed by cake and ice cream. Erin brought a most delicious chocolate cake! We sat around and talked until all that was left of the cake was a couple of pieces. Thank you Erin for the delish cake.

Had a wonderful time in St. Louis praising the Lord for a safe and beautiful Easter Sunday. On Good Friday a tornado swept thru the St. Louis area destroying many homes and doing a lot of damage to the airport. Thankfully no one lost their lives thru it all. Several were hurt at the airport, taken to the hospital and released.

Mother and I played donimoes thru it all. When we heard it was close to Bridgeton and the airport we headed to the hallway where we giggled some and prayed silently for awhile. God is good. We had plenty of time to prepare as St. Louis was pretty good with the warnings. The Cardinal game was stalled for awhile then resumed and won the game. Go Cards!

It's always a wonderful Easter to be able to attend Church, hear the Resurrection Story, sing songs and fellowship with other believers. How blessed we are to live in a free country and be able to worship freely of a living Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Jerry sure had a good time hiding eggs for Chase. Was as much fun watching Jerry as it was Chase when he found them. Thank you Jerry & Aunt Linda for the filled eggs!

Tonight as I was taking Molly "out" I noticed the beautiful blooms on our tulip tree and thought I should get some pictures. I was able to get a close up, one from behind them-showing their color and then the full tree. Just now my sister in St. Louis, Linda, called and said to turn on the weather channel ...they are forecasting severe wind and rain ... which will certainly take care of our beautiful tree. Seems like the weather gets it every year. I'm very thankful we have had it for the past two days.

Surprise Visit with the Sauser Family

Last Wednesday, March 30th, Jay, Tiffany and Riley stopped by to have supper with Tiffany's Mother. Someone told me and I made a B-Line (with camera) to the ROC Cafe to see them. Jay has "buffed up" a bit...sorry Jay...you still look good, Tiffany is radiant as a new mother and Riley was just precious. She actually let me hold her a bit but clearly wanted family to hold her. What a doll. They didn't bring Eddie but then I didn't have Molly. Oh well...still had a great visit with them. The Family has come back to Kansas City! They are helping with a Midtown church pastored by Adam. Prayers are with you.

Fun in St. Louis and Kansas City

One weekend in St. Louis, a few months ago, I got to visit with a former student who had graduated college, married, moved to St. Louis and had a baby. This is myself with baby Owen. He was just bathed and smelled so good...love that baby scent. Congrats Katie he is precious!

What a wonderful weekend I had the first weekend in March. Nancy was driving to Columbia and came thru St. Louis. We met then went to Steak n Shake for lunch. Mother came with us. She said Nancy is so cute and happy she got to spend some time with her too...although Mother didn't say anything except Jr. Hamburger and small coke! Nancy and I hugged and giggled like some teenagers. I truly miss her but know she is where the Lord needs her and Jim. May God continue to bless them in Memphis.

These two adorable children are Reese and Abby. Reese likes his picture taken and Abby not so much. I feel lucky I had gotten this one. Reese and Abby are in town with their parents, Becky and Greg, to visit their PaPa Larson. Len has been in the hospital now for about six weeks. The doctors don't know why but he was really, really sick. You can keep up with him on caringbridge.org ... for LenLarson. Last week he could not walk at all and now he is making up time. Many, many prayers from all over the world have been flooding Heaven on his behalf. We praise the Lord for his progress and for Debbie's strength.

Getting back to the "kids" ... they were in Pa Pa's room for awhile when I arrived so they were allowed to go with me to look around the hospital ...ended up in the cafe with Slurpee's and chips. They were delightful to be around...so sharp and funny. Thank you Becky & Greg (and Granny) for letting me have them for a short time.

In November Linda and I took Mother to her favorite city ...Branson! We stayed in a beautiful hotel with a view and room service. The very favorite performer for Mother was Daniel O'Donald. After the show, Daniel was out in the lobby to see his fans. Linda wanted to see him close up so she took Mother in the wheel chair and low and behold, Daniel looked her way and went right over to her. He knelt down to her level and talked quite a bit with her. We took several pictures and he said to take another one...this is it. There were about 500 people lined up to see him personally and when he moved to Mother, no one said anything ...but looked pleased for her. Hats off to Daniel O'Donald.

Symphony in Flint Hills

The day did not begin to well ... monsoon weather! But the will to "do" took over and we sailed down the highway to Bazaar, Kansas! I think the guys got totally soaked loading the car. Sorry guys. You Rock! (PS I think this is the dust storm close to the site rather than the rain-sorry) but it could of been rain!

As you can see, the Hills were beautiful ... we had a soft breeze the evening ... it was a little cloudy but otherwise a beautiful evening to be sitting on the hillside listening to the Kansas City Symphony (KC Missouri) play and watching the cowboys and cattle. Lyle Lovett sang several songs to go along with the environment.

We had as our host (the Symphony was her idea) Debbie & Len. Howard and Cookie along with Vaughn and myself went along I think for laughs. There were a lot of laughs, fun and barbecue. Sunday morning we had breakfast at a little eating establishment in Burlingham ... the cinnamon rolls were awesome!

The crowd had about 5,000 people. Everyone seemed to be in good spirits. The only setback ... ok there were two ...the first was the governor of Kansas ... he began this wonderful greeting and welcome to the Flint Hills then began slamming on his Missouri neighbors. Really no call for that sort of behavior. His Mother would of been totally embarrassed with the remarks he made. The other problem was the two hours it took to get out of the parking field (field).

We all survived and I think it would be a nice tradition to open the summer with. Apparently this was the fifth year for the Symphony and they use a different "pasture" each year.

Special weekend for us ... Jerry and I were in town ... helped Mother exercise, took her to get her picture taken for the church directory and we had tacos (her favorite fast food) ... ok she likes Steakn'Shake too.

Linda was out of town visiting her daughter, Annie. It had been a long time since their last visit. They had a wonderful time eating out, staying in a nice hotel, and going to the theatre to watch black n white old movies. All in all they had a good time too. We missed them a lot. Don't know why I didn't get any pictures while we were dressed up for church. Silly me. We truly are blessed to have a wonderful family and a blessed Mother.

Yes, my last "Boss" is leaving. Wednesday will be Brett's last day at FBC Raytown as the Student Minister. It seems like an era is gone ... he and Ryan were such a fantastic team. They complimented each other so well. The students loved them unconditionally. I was just beginning to get acquainted with Tyler and Graham. They are amazing children who are a blessing to all. Of course, there is Amy ... the super Mom.
I know their ministry in Augusta (Georgia) will be exciting and awesome. They will certainly be an awesome addition to the staff/team there. May God bless you and your family, Brett, as you seek God's will in Georgia.

Chase's 4th Birthday!

Last Saturday we celeberated the 4th Birthday for Chase. Chase is the son of Angie who is the daughter of Jerry who is my Brother and the son of my precious Mother.

Mother had been home from rehab for one week. She is amazing and doing wonderful! Praising the Lord for His mercy and grace.

Here he is with Aunt Linda. She is the guiding force for the family. She brought the cake, his gift and lots of love and hugs.

Love his new haircut ... short for summer. He seems to like it too which helps.

Robert came too ... Linda's husband ... but avoided the camera. Thank you Uncle Robert for coming to the party. We enjoyed having him too!

Here is PaPa and Judy. Judy was busy from the moment she walked in ... she "volunteered" to fix the phone to say that the mailbox was full ... Mother did not pick up how to find the messages and was frustrating for people who called and left messages. Then she figured out how to put batteries in the Thomas Train that Chase got. Putting batteries in toys is a lot more complicated since some children would swallow them (the batteries)... so that was a good thing. Judy is a blessing to us all.

Of course could not leave out Angie ... the mother of Chase. She has done a good thing with Chase ... taking him to church and teaching him about Jesus. He's enrolled in a Christian School for next Fall. She has had her goals and is meeting them.

Waking up this morning I thought of how wonderful of a husband I have been blessed with. Last night he took me to the Mall ... which he tries to avoid like the plague ... and waited for sometime for me to exchange some clothes. This took more time than he thought because I of course, had to try on other clothing. The skies were very gray and angry with anticipated strong storms headed our way. After the Mall he took me to Penny's which took more time, for me to pick out some really nice house dresses for Mother for when she goes home. He was very thoughtful and didn't complain ... too much. Of course we had Molly with us and the ladies in the shop took out the Topsy's popcorn to him...guess he was directly in front of the store waiting! After the popcorn and the lady telling him I may be awhile, he moved.

My prayer today is to remember to build Vaughn up as it says in 1 Thess 5:11 which says ..."So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing."

Apparently last Friday there was a great wind in the area. When the steeple was put up ... it was done on Good Friday and when the wind blew some panels off ... it was on Good Friday of this year. We are thankful that no one was hurt. Tonight the wind is pretty strong too. Hopefully it'll be repaired soon. Have to wait for the wind to still.

Easter was a fun day at the "rehab/home" ... Linda had come out later in the day so I have no pictures of her ... she brought Mother an Easter basket from Bissingers. Had a cute dancing and hoppin duck along with some of Bissingers finest chocolate. Jerry came out with Angie and Chase. They brought her an Easter basket too with lots of goodies! Thank you Linda and Angie for the beautiful gifts on this Resurrection Sunday! Easter is the promise that our Saviour lives and has gone to provide a place for us with HIM! Praise the Lord! So much has happened since the last blog ... I think it was on Saturday the 27th of March that Lexie and I discovered a new cafe. Cafe Sebastian at the Kemper Contemporary Art Gallery. The food was really fresh and delish. It definitely is one of my favorites. Lex had never been to the Prydes in Old Westport ... I think she enjoyed that too. Then it was by pure accident that we found the Garage Door Coffee Spot where we enjoyed a hot chocolate and chi tea. A fun day with a delightful and beautiful teenager.

After a trip to see Mother as I was leaving my garage, I was greeted by these beautiful miniature red tulips. Thank you Kevin & Sheila for the beautiful greeting at the end of my driveway.

Nate was in town with Kari & Landon to check out sites for his Junior High students mission trip this summer. They are going to stay in the Underground and do mission activities throughout the city. Yes, my Mother will not like this picture ... but I love her no matter how much the hair stood up! Here is Chase and Judy with Grandma. Almost every Sunday, Jerry visits Mother with Chase, Angie and Judy. Sometimes he brings KC the border collie ... everyone loves their visit. KC is a perfect dog ... lets everyone pet him and minds wonderfully. We hope to spring Mother soon from the "Garden" ... she is a miracle! Advancing really well. We are so very thankful for her progress. Linda has been a lifesaver and visits her almost every day. She is a strong advocate for her. Thank you Lord for Family!

Mother wanted a close up picture of one of her daffodils. The front of her home was all 'abloom with these reminders from God that Spring is here and Summer will follow. So looking forward to sunshine and nice weather. They had about 6 inches of snow in Kansas City!

Thank you Brett & Amy for letting Tyler & Graham spend a day with "GMaK" ... began the day with a drive to Crown Center ... we were very hungry so waited the usual 30 minutes in line for lunch at Fritz's.Finally in with the hats on waiting for the "train" to bring the food! Fun time! After this adventure we entered the candy store ... now that is fun with two kids ... of course, they were full from lunch and didn't require a lot of time there. Then we went thru the Storybook setting ... lots of adventure there. The top of the afternoon was ice cream! Tyler wanted the double dip chocolate waffle cone and Graham requested the strawberry/banana hot chocolate sundae.

Belated Valentines Day

Tuesday evening we finally had a chance to see the girls and give them their belated Valentine gifts. They are growing into beautiful young ladies. There are just two granddaughters, the cute blond on the right is Jan, their Mother.

The smile on Elaina's face is that she had just gotten her drivers permit ... passed with flying colors the first time she took the test. Now if the ice would leave the roads, she could practice driving!

Jessie is getting so tall. She's holding Cottonball. Such a beautiful smile for a beautiful pre-teen. I thank my God every time I think of them. How precious they are.

Sad Day at the Office

Today was the last day for Ryan to be our Student Minister. He and his lovely family (wife, Amanda and four sons-Brennan, Blake, Cooper and Cade) all left for Houston, Texas late this afternoon. All were sad to see him move but excited about what God is doing in their lives. We pray Godspeed and blessings as they minister there in Houston.

This Cade and Graham Laxton ...they have been best friends their entire young life. I will miss Cade's sweetness and hugs. Graham is still here and he gives the best hugs!

Valentines Day

What a time we had leading up to Valentines Day. On February 4th, Mother determined that she was having a mild stroke. She was taken to DePaul Hospital in St. Louis where it was indeed determined that she had a mild stroke. Linda had just left for Washington DC and was snowed in for several days. We missed her a lot.

Mother had excellent care at DePaul ... the nurses were super and the physical therapist were wonderful. On Tuesday she was dismissed to Delmar Gardens for rehab. Since being there she is regaining her strength in her right leg and right arm. Her speech was always pretty good and is even better. She did not have any damage to her thinking or eyesight. We are so blessed and thankful it wasn't worse.

Linda has been the main caregiver since I'm in Kansas City. She has taken care of all her needs and calls me with updates. Aunt Rosie (her sister) and Aunt Joan (daddy's sister) have been wonderful in visiting with her too. Jerry has the evening watch.

Mother is a strong and determined lady and we expect her to recover completely from this bump in the road. Everyone is praying for her. We pray God's will and looks like that is getting better and better each day.

Upon my arrival at the house, Vaughn said he had to turn off things in the basement ... he always stuff running ... anyway, he came back upstairs with this beautiful bouquet. He received many kudos for that.

Christmas in St. Louis! Every year that we've been married we have traveled to St. Louis to have Christmas "home" ... this year is no different. I had promised our family that a group picture was not required since I took one Thanksgiving ... thus the pic in St. Louis.

Thanksgiving this year was so very special...as every year is. Mother got to be with us again. She had just celebrated her 90th birthday! She received over 100 birthday cards.

Holiday Labor Day

This was the best ever Labor Day! All the family was together ... enjoyed food prepared, of course, by Pop! As usual, he did an excellent job. Our "girls" brought salads to complete the array of food. I am so thankful for such a loving and caring family. God truly blessed us.

St. Louis Visit

As always Linda plans a wonderful weekend for us (Mother, Aunt Rosie, Linda and myself). We ate lunch at the Crown Candy Kitchen. Mother and Aunt Rosie ordered "cups" of ice cream and Linda & I split a hot fudge banana split. Very Good!!!

This is a sculpture titled Samarhand. I thought it was beautiful ... just like my Mother! The horse Zenit and the stellated dodecahedron were very unusual.

After lunch we visited the new Citygarden. It's located downtown with a beautiful view of the Arch. Linda took the picture with the Two Rabbits. Linda couldn't resist putting her fist in the nose of Eros Bendato.

This last picture is Aunt Rosie and Mother in front of (I thought Abe Lincoln) but it is really the Scarecrow. We just saw a small bit of the garden ... will go back on another beautiful day. God blessed us with nice weather. I'm still trying to learn this blogging without bothering Vaughn, so please excuse this not being in order. Drives me nuts but then who really cares? I just like the pictures.

The reason I was in St. Louis at all this weekend was to the generosity of my dear, life long friend, Debbie. The aunt of her husband, who lives in St. Louis, had surgery so she wanted to go to be with him and visit the aunt. Not wanting to go it alone she asked me to go with her. In that great big city, the aunt lives just down the street of my sister! Thank you Debbie for letting me ride along. I truly enjoyed it! Trevor was a sweetheart too. (Trevor is the Grandson of Debbie & Len). God has spoiled me with wonderful friends and family.

Ok ... I'm still new at this blogging stuff and don't want to bother Vaughn ... he'sbusy in his workshop. Anyway, Tyler and Cameron came by the office ... Tyler is college bound and Cameron is still in elementary school... both students love the drums. Can't wait to hear them play with their dad.

Next is myself with two of our summer interns, Lauren Barlow and Katie West. Katie brought her brother to see the Underground. Katie lives out of town and Lauren is "one of ours" ... she's a huge help with the Underground. Pray for her husband who will be home shortly from overseas.

Then college bound twins, Jessica & Becca came by with their cousin and new seventh grader, Jaci. All three of these young ladies have picture perfect smiles. They are all super students .

It's a blessing to see all these young people grown in their faith in the Lord. I truly have a God blessed occupation.

Fun Day in Kimmswick

What a wonderful idea my Sister, Linda, had ... a day in Kimmswick! We arrived early to shop then ate a wonderful lunch ... really overate a wonderful lunch at the Blue Owl Restaurant. Picture above is our wonderful Mother on the right and her fun Sister, Aunt Rosie, on the left.

We had plenty of time to shop and find bargains. Our favorite place was "Something Nice" ... had all sorts of items we fell in love with.

What a wonderful time I had shopping with the girls for school clothes. They were given a set amount from PaPa Vaughn & I ... they shopped very wisely. We had a lot of fun. Afterward we went to IHOP with PaPa Vaughn. Looking forward to a super school year. They will both be in new schools ... Middle School and High School. May God truly bless them in their studies and make lasting friendships.

Someone said we looked like cotton candy! Nancy and I are working hard to help get camp ready ... we leave this Sunday. Wednesday Nancy leaves for Memphis to attend Jenny Cowart's wedding. Too close to camp for me to go so I'll attend Madison & Stephens wedding Saturday.

We sure have had some good times. I so have enjoyed working with Nancy in the Ministry. God sent her at the right time. She and Jim have truly impacted the lives of many students through the years. They will have a new adventure in Memphis and I'm sure will glorify the Lord. Thank you Nancy! I love ya. kayB

What a group! This weekend we planned several trips with Mother. She first went with me on a Mystery Tour. We got on the bus and did not know where we were going. We stopped in Oklahoma City where we had a fun time. For three days we stepped on the bus and did not know where we were going or what we were going to see. We had a fabulous time! The next month (June) Linda took Mother to the Lillac Festival on Mackinac Island. They had a great trip. The last trip for the year will be to Branson and this time we'll take along Aunt Rosie ... Mother's sister. We always have a fun time when we're all together.

The month ended with a much needed two week cruise thru the Panama Canal. The weather was beautiful (warm) and the fellowship with 41 friends from church was a blessing. I'll try to post some pictures...

Taking Mom Fishing

Two sisters and a brother (Kay and Linda and Jerry) took their mother back to her childhood home (Piedmont) for an afternoon of fishing. They were joined by her sister Rose, Uncle Tommy and brothers new fiancee, Judy.

They fished, put flowers on loved ones at the cemetery BBQ'ed, enjoyed the day on Clearwater Lake, and returned home to enjoy some fish fillets.

Today was a sad day, our buddy, and Molly's brother Tex lost a short battle with a disease and passed away. He was with us a little over three years, and brought much joy to Shelia and Kevin as well as anyone who came in contact with him.

Tex was always dressed for the occasion, whether it was Christmas time, the yearly "wiener dog race", a party at his masters house, or just one of his frequent visits to his sisters house to run and play.

He was always a gentleman, and always acted the part of big brother where Molly was concerned.

Tex will be missed by all who knew him, and our lives are richer having known him.

It's such a blessing to see young people grow up from infants and to have a bright future ahead. It takes 12 graduating Seniors to do what five adults can do. What can they do as a group? They can venture to Orlando and visit the Magic Kingdom. Walk to much,eat to much, miss to much sleep, enjoy spending an incredible amount of good ol' American dollars, and most of all cement friendships and create life long memories and enjoy fellowship not often encountered on a "Senior Trip".

The "Senior Trip" was sponsored by the Student Ministry of First Baptist Church Raytown Missouri.

I'm sure many life long dreams were fulfilled because of this trip. I know one of those dreams has been LuLu's for a long..long time. She has been all over the world but the one thing she always talked about was going to Disney World. I'm glad she got to go.

And congratulations to the graduating seniors who contribute and support the student ministry.

Every Monday during the scrap booking season, the ladies descend upon the Bradley Ranch to enjoy fun,"sometimes treats" and always several bottles of water in preparation to putting some final touches on their current scrap booking projects. It's amazing and inspitational to hear what happens in there. (Molly and I usually hold up either in the wood shop or in the living room in front of the TV.)

It was a great day at Crossroads. Pastor Darrel had his usual awsome sermon, and our oldest son Brian Baptised three of the young people of Crossroads, two of them are in his youth group and the third will soon be part of the youth group. Jess sat in church with PaPa and grandma Kay and grandma Patsy while Elaina participated with the praise team. (Of course she is our favorite member of the Praise Team)
